Putin concerned about quality of services provided to passengers in Sochi airport

SOCHI. Sept 16 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was concerned about the quality of services provided to passengers in the Sochi airport.

Putin asked who manages the Sochi airport during a meeting with those responsible for preparations for the Olympics,. Head of the Olympic Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko said it was Basel-avia.

"The certification, which is to confirm the announced passenger-handling capacity of 2,800 passengers per hour, is scheduled for October," Chernyshenko said.

"It is necessary to ensure service quality. Who is looking after this?" Putin said.

Chernyshenko responded that the state committee for the Olympics preparations was dealing with the control.

"There already are complaints on the service quality of passengers, so think through and propose who should observe and watch after this," Putin said.

The organizing committee is aware of the issues with handling passengers, Chernyshenko said. Chernyshenko said he promised that Olympics organizers and airport owners would do everything necessary to ensure safety and comfort of passengers.

The airport owner is responsible for the quality of services provided and the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) - for control, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak. Operative headquarters to control the quality of transport services, headed by the transport minister, has been established during the preparations of the Olympics, he said.

Moscow, Krasnodar and Mineralnye Vody will be ready to take diverted planes in case of inclement weather during the Olympics and "we will have a train ready to bring fans," Chernyshenko said.
