Human rights issues voiced publically lead to no results - French Foreign Minister

MOSCOW. Sept 17 (Interfax) - Issues related to human rights in some countries should not be discussed publically, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said.

It is known that the issue of human rights is very important for France, Fabius said on Tuesday at a meeting with French business circles organized by the French-Russian Chamber of Trade and Industry in Moscow.

If these topics are discussed publically, zero result is received, Fabius said.

One should never put partners in an uncomfortable situation, the French minister said.

As to relations with Russia, nothing is impeding Russian-French strategic partnership, Fabius said. The disagreements between Moscow and Paris regarding the Syrian issue concern methods alone, not the purpose of political settlement in Syria, he said.

Fabius said he supported improving the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. The structure of the mutual trade turnover has an imbalance towards France, he said. Both countries are responsible for this, the minister said. Fabius said he was not sure that France always welcomed Russian investments as warmly as it should.
