Signing association agreement with EU will promote European quality of life in Ukraine - Azarov

KYIV. Sept 18 (Interfax) - Singing an association agreement with the European Union will consistently promote a European quality of life in Ukraine, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said.

"We are currently not raising the question of Ukraine's membership in the EU, but by signing an association agreement we are creating conditions for consistent movement towards a European quality of life," he said while opening the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Azarov said the agreement is a "roadmap" on the path to the country which the majority of Ukrainians want Ukraine to be.

"It is important that the association agreement is not a dogma and can be revised periodically," Azarov said. "It's an equal international treaty. At the top level, political dialogue will take place at the level of summits," he said.

An association council will be created to supervise the fulfillment of the agreement and to revise it, he said.

The association agreement with the EU brings pivotal changes for Ukraine, Azarov said. At the same time, he reiterated that the main risk for Ukraine is that "modernization needs colossal resources and time."
