Meat production growth rate down, milk output falls in Jan-Aug

MOSCOW. Sept 18 (Interfax) - The rate of growth for meat production in Russia slowed year-on-year in January-August 2013. Production of milk and eggs fell.

The Russian Statistics Service Rosstat said Wednesday that meat production (cattle and poultry, in live weight) increased 6.3% in January-August 2013 to 7.1 million tonnes. However, there was a climb of 8.2% in the same period of last year.

Milk production fell 4% to 21.7 million tonnes. A year ago there was a 1.8% climb. Production of eggs dropped 1.4% to 28.3 billion, compared to a rise of 2.9% last year.

Meat production (poultry and cattle, in live weight) went up 4.1% year-on-year in August 2013 to 0.9 million tonnes. Milk was down 3.4% to 3.1 million tonnes and eggs were down 4.2% to 3.6 billion.
