Dutch ambassador to Russia given note of protest over provocative actions of Arctic Sunrise

MOSCOW. Sept 19 (Interfax) - The Dutch ambassador to Russia has been summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry over the actions of the Arctic Sunrise vessel, the Russian Foreign Ministry posted a statement on Thursday.

"On September 18, Dutch Ambassador to Russia R. Van Dartel has been summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry and has been given a note of protest regarding the provocative actions of the Arctic Sunrise vessel, which sailed under the flag of the Netherlands in the waters off Russia's northern shore," the statement said.

According to the information of the Russian Foreign Ministry, on September 18, 2013, at 4:20 Moscow time four powerboats with unknown individuals on board were launched from the Arctic Sunrise vessel, which then proceeded to approach the Prirazlomnaya platform and then attempted to get into the facility using special equipment.

"While moving towards the platform, the powerboats were towing an unknown item appearing to be a barrel," the statement said.

The ambassador "promised to immediately deliver the note from the Russian Foreign Ministry and the evaluations of actions by the Arctic Sunrise crew that he was given during the conversation," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
