Rusal ships 5.5% less aluminum by rail in 8M - RZD

MOSCOW. Sept 19 (Interfax) - UC Rusal reduced aluminum shipments by rail 5.5% year-on-year in January August to 1.569 million tonnes, Russian Railways (RZD) said.

Export shipments fell 4.6% to 1.479 million tonnes and domestic shipments fell 18.2% to 89,800 tonnes.

Alumina shipments were down 2.4% to 4.72 million tonnes, with imports falling 5.4% to 3.06 million tonnes but domestic shipments rising 3.6% to 1.662 million tonnes.

RZD's figures differ from Rusal's own, which are usually published later because, the aluminum company says, RZD reports aluminum shipped in containers as container cargo, without a breakdown for the type of cargo.
