Leasing 50 Boeing 737NGs to cost Aeroflot $3.5 bln for 12 years, $5.5 bln for 18 yrs

MOSCOW. Sept 20 (Interfax) - Leasing 50 Boeing 737NG airliners from state corporation Rostec will cost Russian flag carrier Aeroflot $3.5 billion for 12 years, and if the operating lease is extended for another six years the cost will increase by $2 billion, sources close to the deal told Interfax.

"The overall price of the operating lease for 18 years will be $5.542 billion, it is spelled out in the document. It includes the price of the aircraft, leasing payments for this period, and factors in costs on the possible conversion of some of the Boeing 737-800NG into Boeing 737-900NG and an option to extend the lease by six years. The agreement has very many points, it even factors in inflation," one source said.

There is a separate provision in the agreement for payment of $1.9 billion if the company will conduct maintenance on the aircraft somewhere other than at authorized Boeing service centers, he added. The security deposit on the deal was $9.4 million, he said.

A source at Rostec said the final cost for the airline, with leasing payments for 12 years, will be about $3.5 billion.

In September 2010, Rostec and aircraft maker Boeing signed an agreement for 50 Boeing 737NG airliners. They will be delivered to Aeroflot in the Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-900 ER modifications, intended for respectively 189 and 215 passengers. The last delivery is scheduled for 2017.
