Duma upholds Tatyana Golikova's candidacy for top Audit Chamber job

MOSCOW. Sept 20 (Interfax) - Russia's parliament, the State Duma, voted in 415-5 favor of Tatyana Golikova's candidacy for the post of Audit Chamber head at a Friday plenary session.

There were two abstentions. Golikova had been mooted by Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 9.

A formal vote will take place at 5:00 p.m. Moscow time. The deputies will be voting on an appointment resolution.

In accordance with a new version of Audit Chamber law, there have to be at least three candidates for the post nominated by the Russian president, the Duma Council for faction proposals, or the parliamentary chamber. The president chooses from among the three and submits the candidate to the Duma for appointment. In the event that one of the proposed nominees is not supported by the president, he has the right to nominate another and present that one to the Duma for appointment.

Under the law, the chamber is to be put together according to the new rules before October 1 of this year.
