Russia's pressure on some countries related to Eastern Partnership policy - Lithuanian President
YALTA, September 20 (Interfax) - Russia's pressure on some countries is evidently related to the attempt to influence Eastern Partnership countries, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said.
Actions against Lithuania began approximately several weeks ago, same time as against Moldova and Ukraine, and this is more related to the Eastern Partnership policy than something else, Grybauskaite said at a briefing on Friday when asked about the increased price on Russian gas for Lithuania.
Romania has become the first country to be affected by the pressure from gas, Grybauskaite said.
Of course, Lithuania has always wanted to negotiate with Russia and Gazprom [MOEX: GAZP] but has always received quite strange answers, Grybauskaite said. The president said she supported the intentions of the Lithuanian government to reach a new agreement with Russia.
The price of Russian gas for Lithuania is surely not economic but political, Grybauskaite said.
This is not an economic price, there is no economic logic there - this is simply a political price. Grybauskaite said. Gas prices for Lithuania are used as a geopolitical instrument by Russia, she said.
