Criminal cases may be opened based on misuse of Russian Academy of Sciences property worth millions of rubles - source

MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Criminal cases may be opened based on a large-scale investigation that is being conducted by the Russian Prosecutor General's Office in the Russian Academy of Sciences, sources familiar with the situation told Interfax.

"The violations of the law revealed by the probe, specifically, instances of misuse of federal property worth millions of rubles, may lead to criminal prosecution," a source told Interfax.

The Prosecutor General's Office expects the final results of the prosecutors' requests for the correction of the revealed violations, which envision the culprits' punishment and compensation for the damage done.

"The authorities have one month to react to these requests by law. After measures are taken to correct the violations of the law and are analyzed, a decision will be made about sending the materials obtained during the probe to investigative bodies for a criminal case to be opened," the source said.
