Putin hopes Russian airlines will fly to Iceland

SALEKHARD. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has reiterated his intention to continue joint energy projects with Iceland in Kamchatka and to cooperate in telecommunications and air traffic.

"All these [projects] remain in force, we only have to make them feasible and compete with other energy resources," Putin told Iceland President Olafur Grimsson.

Putin also said that Russia and Iceland were cooperating not only in fishing but also in laying "a new telecom cable, which might be later connected to North American networks."

"Icelandic airlines have started to make flights to Russia and we hope that Russian companies will be able to make such flights from Moscow and St. Petersburg soon," Putin said.
