Mountain climber's body found on Mount Kazbek
VLADIKAVKAZ. Sept 25 (Interfax) - North Ossetian rescuers have reported that their Georgian colleagues have found the body of an unidentified mountain climber on Mount Kazbek, where a group of Polish tourists has been missing since September 22.
"On Tuesday, four Georgian rescuers found the body of an unidentified mountain climber and two rucksacks on the northern slope of Mount Kazbek on the Georgian side at the height of 4,300 meters," the press service for the Emergency Situations Ministry's Main Department for North Ossetia has reported.
The fate of the two people who accompanied the missing Polish mountain climber remains unknown, the report says.
"In this regard, a decision has been made to involve North Ossetian rescuers in the search operation on the slope of the mountain located on the territory of Russia. The search and rescue operation will continue until the fate of the Polish tourists is known," the press release says.
According to the press service, the North Ossetian rescuers are now at a height of 3,500 meters and are heading to the place where the Polish tourist called for help.
According to earlier reports, a group of North Ossetian rescuers began a search for a Polish tourist that had gone missing on Mount Kazbek on September 23. The man was not registered in the republic and had entered Russia from Georgia.
On the Georgian side, the search operation is being conducted by rescuers from the Kazbek district department for emergency situations of the Georgian Interior Ministry.
