Russia opposed to tightening PACE monitoring procedures - State Duma deputy
MOSCOW. Sept 27 (Interfax) - Russia will resist attempts to introduce dual monitoring procedures of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), head of Russian State Duma committee on international affairs Alexei Pushkov said.
"An attempt is currently being made to pass the recommendation for the monitoring committee, according to which all monitoring reports will be submitted for consideration to the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers," Pushkov told reporters on Friday.
"We are essentially opposed to any forms of dual monitoring in strict or milder form," Pushkov said.
According to this proposal, monitoring reports will be analyzed by PACE and the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers, he deputy said.
"We think that this recommendation should not be passed in PACE," Pushkov said.
From Russia's point of view, an attempt is being made to discriminate the countries, which are under monitoring or post-monitoring procedures, Pushkov said.
Certain political forces in PACE are trying not to decrease, but to increase the monitoring procedures regarding these countries, Pushkov said.
