Army to contribute to Sochi Olympic Games security - commander
MOSCOW. Sept 30 (Interfax) - The Russian Army will contribute to the security of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games, Army Commander Col. Gen. Vladimir Chirkin said on Monday.
The Army is assisting in the prevention and cleanup of aftereffects of natural and man-made calamities, the suppression of terrorism and the provision of emergency regimes, he said citing internal security threats.
"I may give the following examples of the Army engagement in such operations: the prevention and cleanup of damages done by the floodwaters in the Far Eastern Federal District, the provision of security of the Sochi Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the involvement in counterterrorist operations in the North Caucasus," he said at a meeting dedicated to the Army Day observed on October 1.
