Abkhazia, South Ossetia can not compete in Sochi Olympics independently - IOC tells Georgia

TBILISI. Sept 30 (Interfax) - The participation of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states in Sochi Olympics is out of the question, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) wrote in response to the letter of the Georgian National Olympic Committee.

"The National Olympic Committee has received a letter form the IOC saying that, in accordance with the Olympic Charter, the IOC does not recognize either Abkhazia or South Ossetia and recognizes solely the National Olympic Committee of Georgia, the jurisdiction of which applies to entire Georgia, as it has been recognized by the UN and the international community," the National Olympic Committee said.

Georgia has sent letters to the IOC and the organizing group of the Sochi Olympics demanding that Abkhazia and South Ossetia do not compete as independent countries.
