Reaction of UN SC to be adequate if Syria violates resolution - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister

MOSCOW. Oct 1 (Interfax) - In the case of Syria violating the 2118 resolution, measures of the UN Security Council should be adequate to the actions committed and will not necessarily lead to a use of force, Russian deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said.

"Only after the Security Council conducts a through investigation [of the possible violation], it will be ready to take action under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter but this will not necessarily be use of force. All possible steps of the Security Council should be adequate to the seriousness of violations, which are to be proven first," Gatilov told Interfax on Tuesday.

"We assume firmly that any actions along the Security Council should be adequate to actions committed," Gatilov said.
