Taxes from simplified system for small businesses might go to local budgets

MOSCOW. Oct 3 (Interfax) - Tax revenues from small businesses under the simplified taxation system might be handed over to local budgets.

"The Economic Development Ministry is proposing to hand revenues from the [simplified system] over to local budgets starting in 2015," Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at a cabinet meeting in Thursday.

He said that a decision on this idea has not been made yet.

Revenues under the simplified system now go to regional budgets, but the fiscal strategy calls for gradually transferring them to the municipal level.

"We're proposing to accelerate [this process] and to transfer all 100% to municipal budgets in the near-term," Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev said.

He said this change will help develop a dialog between municipalities and local businesses and consequently foster a "comfortable business environment."
