Russia's civil defense exercise goes well - ministry
MOSCOW. Oct 4 (Interfax) - Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry expressed satisfaction with a nationwide civil defense exercise on Friday that aimed to test whether emergency services were capable of handling natural and manmade disasters efficiently.
"We are finishing our training exercise," First Deputy Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shlyakov said. "The objectives of the exercise have basically been achieved. Senior officials, control bodies and personnel have acquired practical skills in implementing and controlling civil defense measures and carrying out the entire set of emergency reaction measures."
"The exercise has shown the importance and necessity of measures of this kind at national level and their significance for the protection of the population and territory of the Russian Federation from modern threats and challenges. I want to warn you that there will be annual exercises of this kind," Shlyakov said.
