Georgia announces tender to rebuild 3 substations

TBILISI. Oct 7 (Interfax) - Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE) announced an international tender on Monday for the reconstruction, expansion and modernization of three substations as part of a regional project to strengthen the electricity transmission system.

GSE told Interfax the tender would offer three lots. The first envisages reconstruction of the Ksani 500/330/110 kW substation in the central part of Georgia, the second - the Marneuli 220/110 kW substation in Eastern Georgia and the third - the Mendzhi 200/110 kW substation in Western Georgia.

Applications will be accepted until December 20. The contending companies should have at least 15 years' experience in the field and annual turnover of at least $11.3 million in the last three years.

The work is to be completed by 2016.

The project will be financed with a loan the Asian Development Bank allocated in March 2014 for $48 million to fund improvements in electricity transmission, exports and transit in the region.

GSE in April announced an international tender for the construction of a new substation near Poti - 220/110 kW Khorga to increase electricity transmission from Inguri HPP to Turkey to 400 megawatts. Ten companies bid in the tender and these applications are currently being reviewed by the tender commission.

GSE controls all electricity transmission lines with 220, 110 and 35 kW voltage, with a total length of over 3,000 kilometers, as well as 89 substations with 8,030.5 megawatt capacity, enabling the transmission and dispatch of electricity throughout the country.
