Russia had requested increased security of its Tripoli embassy even before Oct 2 attack - ambassador
MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax) - Security measures taken at the Russian Embassy in Tripoli were insufficient, Russian Ambassador to Libya Ivan Molotkov told Interfax.
"Those security arrangements were purely nominal. As in many countries, there was only a small police presence. But Libya is a special country. That is why the security measures taken there were clearly not enough to contain an armed mob," he said.
When asked whether Russian Embassy officials had asked the Libyan authorities to step up security at the diplomatic mission prior to last week's attack, Molotkov said that "as a matter of fact, there had been no guards at all either at our embassy or other embassies a short time before."
"Both our embassy and all the other diplomatic missions had brought up this issue," he said.
