Putin: Russia-China relations see more cooperation than competition

BALI, Indonesia. Oct 8 (Interfax) - There is more cooperation than competition in Russia-China relations, Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters after the APEC Bali summit on Tuesday.

"Competition is the engine of all sectors, both the economy and politics. So, in my opinion, there are neither contradictions nor tragedies. We have competition in some [sectors] and cooperation in others. At present we have more points of contact in cooperation with China," he said.

Russia and China cooperate in hydrocarbons production, electric power engineering, atomic energy, aircraft building, metallurgy, transportation and infrastructure, Putin said.

China is interested in heavy helicopters, and Russia is a world leader in that field. "We will modernize [our products] or build a brand new vehicle," Putin said.

He also pointed to Russia-China cooperation in the broad-fuselage aircraft project. "If we make a competitive aircraft it will be supplied to the domestic market," the president said.

He added that Russia-China trade kept growing and might near $57 billion in 2013.
