Almost 1,100 people released under economic amnesty in Russia

MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax) - A total of 1,092 people have already been released under the economic amnesty declared by the Russian State Duma, the administration of Russian business ombudsman Boris Titov told Interfax on Tuesday.

"As of October 8, the number of people to whom the State Duma resolution On Declaring Amnesty of July 2, 2013 applied amounts to 1,092," the administration said.

The amnesty applies to convicts who do not have to serve the rest of their prison terms and to individuals regarding whom criminal prosecution was stopped during the investigations stage, the administration said.

Titov said on October 2: "Approximately 2,000 more people could potentially be amnestied, if not to count those, who are being investigated. A lot will depend on the qualification and on how convicts could repay damages done."
