Lithuanian PM hopes to discuss trade restrictions with Medvedev

VILNIUS. Oct 9 (Interfax/BNS) - Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius said he hopes we would manage to discuss trade restrictions Moscow introduced on Lithuania with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

The conversation with Medvedev was requested some time ago and now the response of Russia's White House about when this talk will take place is expected, Butkevicius said in an interview with the Laisvoji Banga radio station. The Lithuanian prime minister said he hoped that he might receive an answer today.

Contacts have been established some time ago and the wish to talk to the Russian prime minister has been expressed, Butkevicius said.

Russia stepped up inspection of cargo and truck companies from Lithuania at customs checkpoints in September and stopped imports of Lithuanian dairy products this week.

According to Butkevicius, Lithuania is consulting with the European Commission regarding a possible appeal to the World Trade Organization.
