Courier delivers Greenpeace executive's letter to Putin to Russian embassy in The Hague
MOSCOW/THE HAGUE. Oct 9 (Interfax) - The letter of a Greenpeace executive to Russian President Vladimir Putin has been delivered to the Russian Embassy in the Netherlands.
"The letter has been received. A courier has just delivered it," Russian Embassy PR officer Sofia Sarenkova told Interfax on Wednesday.
Kremlin did not comment on the letter of Greenpeace earlier on Wednesday, having said they have not seen it.
Greenpeace Executive Director Kumi Naidoo has sent the letter to Putin asking to release on bail environmentalists from the Arctic Sunrise vessel, which was detained on September 19. According to the information posted on the Greenpeace website, the letter has been delivered to the Russian Embassy in the Netherlands.
The Arctic Sunrise was detained on September 19 over a protest rally against the oil drilling activities of the Prirazlomnaya platform in the Pechora Sea. The vessel was brought to Murmansk and impounded.
All 30 crew members have been charged with "piracy committed by an organized group." The defendants pled not guilty and refused to testify.
