Snowden can count on Russian citizenship after having lived in Russia for 5 years - lawyer Kucherena

MOSCOW. Oct 10 (Interfax) - Former NSA employee Edward Snowden may count on Russian citizenship after he has lived in Russia for five years, lawyer Anatoly Kucherena says.

"In order to become a Russian citizen, it is necessary to live in Russia for at least five years," Kucherena said in an interview with Life News television on Thursday.

"This concerns any citizen. In this case, Edward, as you know, has temporary asylum for one year. He can extend it an unlimited number of times. And if he lives on Russian territory for at least five years, then he will be entitled to be granted Russian citizenship," Kucherena said.
