Salafis convicted of terrorism in Kazakhstan
ATYRAU. Sept 10 (Interfax) - The specialized inter-district criminal court in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan convicted a group of terrorists on Thursday.
Nine followers of the Salafi movement outlawed in the republic aged from 17 through 33 were found guilty of terrorism propaganda, public appeals for acts of terrorism, creation, participation and supervision of a terrorist group using armaments and explosives, and illegal arms production, regional court press secretary Boranbai Galiyev told Interfax.
"Roman Bayarisov, 33, and Ramiz Kim, 30, were found guilty of the involvement of minors in criminal activities and sexual abuse and sentenced to 14 years in prison and their property was impounded," he said.
Two underage members of the criminal group were sentenced to six years each.
The other group members, aged from 18 to 23, were sentenced from eight to nine years and their property was also impounded.
