Kuwait hopes Russian president will accept invitation to Arab-Africa Summit - foreign minister

MOSCOW. Oct 11 (Interfax) - The emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the Arab-Africa Summit in November as the leader of the country that currently holds the G20 presidency, Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sabah al-Khalid al-Hamad al-Sabah said.

"Kuwait Emir Sabah al-Ahmad's written message was forwarded to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin today, inviting him [Putin] as G20 chairman to the third Arab-Africa Summit, which will be held in Kuwait in November," he said at a press conference after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"We hope that the president of Russia accepts this invitation," he added.

The Kuwaiti emir's message also addressed the need to further "promote and strengthen friendly relations between the two countries," the minister said.

The Kuwaiti foreign minister also said that he and Lavrov had discussed ongoing preparations for the Kuwaiti emir's upcoming visit to Russia.
