Lavrov urges disciplinary measures against Geneva II opponents

MOSCOW. Oct 11 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has urged that disciplinary measures be brought against the opponents of holding the Geneva II peace conference for Syria.

"I expect the so-called disciplinary measures to be taken against the opponents of the Russian-U.S. initiative so that they finally start working on Geneva II and stop their subversive operations," Lavrov told a Friday press conference in Moscow.

"As to Iran, the participation of Iran in the Geneva conference is a mandatory factor, same as the participation of other states that exert influence on various Syrian groups," he said.

Some countries not only deny support to Geneva II but also "make blunt attempts to thwart it," Lavrov said. He added that certain countries "were disappointed and could not keep their emotions in check" when the Russian-U.S. initiative for the destruction of Syrian chemical weapons was declared.
