Rogozin vows to tell Putin about tension on Moldova-Transdniestria border
MOSCOW. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin has promised to notify President Vladimir Putin about alleged instability in the security zone along the border between Moldova and its breakaway Transdniestria region.
Russia is closely following developments along the Moldovan-Transdniestrian border, Rogozin said during a meeting with Transdniestrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk.
"I hope that the Transdniestrian side will have enough self-control to stick to the rules that are laid down by international law," Rogozin said.
He mentioned that about 200 Russian citizens live in Transdniestria and warned that Russia would do everything under its control to protect them.
Shevchuk accused Moldova of "provocations" in the security zone. "Unfortunately, there are ongoing provocations in the security zone. On average there are up to 60 incidents of varying activity every year, and it is largely due to efforts of the Russian peacekeeping force that it becomes possible to separate the two sides and maintain peace," he said.
"I will definitely pass your words to the president of the Russian Federation," Rogozin said.
