Sobyanin admits risk of appearance of "ethnic" neighborhoods in Moscow
MOSCOW. Oct 15 (Interfax) - The center and the outskirts of Moscow have approximately the same security levels at present, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said.
"This is a unique positive characteristic of Moscow. Practically no other megalopolis in the world has such security, from the central area to the periphery. God forbid you venture into the outskirts of New York City," Sobyanin said in an interview with the Lenta.ru online edition published on Tuesday.
At the same time, he admitted the risk of the appearance of the so-called ethnic neighborhoods in the capital city. "There are no such neighborhoods as of yet but there is such a danger, this is true," the Moscow mayor said.
The appearance of the so-called "Chinatowns" will have severe consequences "from the point of view of both the crime rate and the wellbeing of citizens who may become isolated as a neighborhood for some reason and live there according to their own traditions and regulations," he stressed.
