Premier Medvedev praises Russian Muslims' role in combating extremism
MOSCOW. Oct 15 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said in his message to the leaders of the country's spiritual Muslim boards that "the celebration of the Eid al-Adha holiday is meant to help strengthen the traditions of Muslims and maintain peace between different faiths and ethnicities."
"Let me thank you for the efforts you have been making to reinforce the institution of family and youth education, as well as to promote the ideals of mutual respect and tolerance in Russian society," Medvedev said.
The heads of spiritual Muslim boards across Russia have been playing a "consistent and proactive role" in suppressing attempts to spread radical and extremist ideas in the country, the prime minister said.
"The state will continue supporting the Muslim communities' efforts to enhance the system of religious education, arrange the Hajj and safeguard cultural values," he said.
Medvedev wished Russia's Muslims good health, peace and prosperity.
"May warmth and guests fill all of your homes on these joyous days," he said.
