Rosneft, Pirelli mull making tire rubber, including in Far East

MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Rosneft and Italian tire company Pirelli are studying the possibility of setting up production of SSBR synthetic rubber for tires and the possibility of replicating such production in Russia's Far East, the Russian state oil major said in a statement.

The companies earlier signed an agreement to develop cooperation in sales and marketing that called for joint marketing projects and the sale of Pirelli products through Rosneft's retail chain.

Rosneft plans to build a new petrochemical complex in the Far East with a view to exporting high value added products to Asian markets. Rosneft is also working on a project to modernize the Angarsk polymer plant in Irkutsk Region in order to balance capacity for production of petrochemicals for which there is demand on both the Russian and foreign markets.

The oil company is also working on a project with Sanors to build a major petrochemical complex in the Volga region to produce high-tech polymers.
