Biryulyovo vegetable warehouse closed, unlikely to be reopened - Sobyanin

MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - A vegetable warehouse in Biryulyovo, which was closed recently, is unlikely to ever be reopened, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in presenting an annual report to the Moscow City Duma on Wednesday.

"As concerns the vegetable warehouse in Biryulyovo, sanitary and migration inspections are underway there now. Criminal cases into violations have already been opened against its management," Sobyanin said.

The warehouse has been closed and "is unlikely to ever be reopened," he said.

"This is a good message for everyone who prioritizes profit over the law and Muscovites' interests," he said.

Moscow's Chertanovsky District Court is hearing a lawsuit by the consumer protection watchdog Rospotrebnadzor seeking the vegetable warehouse's closure on Wednesday.

The Western Biryulyovo neighborhood in Moscow witnessed riots prompted by the murder of a local resident on October 13. A native of Azerbaijan is suspected of committing the murder. Biryulyovo residents earlier complained that the said vegetable warehouse employed thousands of illegal migrant workers.
