Court arrests Zeinalov until December 10
MOSCOW. Oct 17 (Interfax) - Orkhan Zeinalov, a citizen of Azerbaijan, who is suspected of killing Yegor Shcherbakov, a resident of the Moscow Biryulyovo district, has been taken into custody until December 10, an Interfax correspondent reported on Thursday.
Thus, the Moscow Presnensky Court has granted the investigators' request.
The judge took into account the arguments presented by the investigators that Zeinalov, if released, may hide from the investigators, obstruct justice, and threaten witnesses.
The court found that Zeinalov is a foreign citizen, does not live at the address where he is registered to live, and has no official employment or permanent income.
"Orkhan Zeinalov is suspected of an especially grave crime. The request for him to be taken into custody was made on the basis of testimonies by witnesses, who pointed to his involvement in the crime," the judge said in his decision.
Yegor Shcherbakov, 25, a resident of Moscow, was killed in the Moscow Western Biryulyovo district in the early hours of October 10. On October 11, the Investigations Committee received information from investigators stating that the young man was stabbed while returning home with his girlfriend. Shcherbakov died at the scene. The suspect left.
On October 13, riots occurred in Biryulyovo, which led to a pogrom of a local mall and a local vegetable base. Zeinalov, who is suspected of killing Shcherbakov, was captured on October 15.
Vladimir Markin, an official with the Investigations Committee, told Interfax on Wednesday Zeinalov had admitted his guilt. "When being questioned, Zeinalov testified about the circumstances of this killing, saying he had stabbed Yegor Shcherbakov in the Vostryakovsky Proyezd in the early hours of October 10, killing him," Markin told Interfax.
The parents of Zeinalov, 29, told Interfax they believe their son is not involved in his crime.
