Hundreds of mercenaries are fighting against Assad in Syria - Bordyuzha

MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Hundreds of mercenaries, including those from the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), are fighting against the Assad regime in Syria, CSTO General Secretary Nikolai Bordyuzha said on Monday.

"Hundreds of people from Europe and CSTO countries are fighting in Syria," Bordyuzha told a press conference in Moscow.

"We are concerned that these people may return home and will be able to take part in activities aimed at destabilizing the situations in our countries," Bordyuzha said.

The CSTO countries are working on preventing the Syrian scenario from repeating itself, he said. "Several people who fought in Syria have already been detained in some countries of the CSTO," Bordyuzha said, without specifying the countries where detentions have taken place.

Bordyuzha also said new technologies are being used to fight a lawfully elected regime in Syria. "It all started in Chechnya, the first attempt was made there, mercenaries were used there. It didn't work. The technologies were tested successfully in Libya and they are being used in Syria," he said.
