Special service officer killed in Kabardino-Balkaria shootout - investigators
NALCHIK. Oct 22 (Interfax) - A shootout broke out between two men driving their cars in the town of Baksan in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria in Russia's North Caucasus, a spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee's regional branch told Interfax.
One of the motorists, who was subsequently identified as an officer of special services, was killed, and his passenger, also a special service officer, was injured in the incident.
"A shootout between two motorists occurred on Lenin Street, in the center of the town of Baksan, at 9:15 p.m. [on October 21]. One of them was killed and his passenger was injured," the spokesman said.
The second driver fled the scene, he said.
A criminal inquiry has been opened on the counts of illegal possession of weapons (article 222 of the Russian Penal Code) and an attempt on the life of an officer of law enforcement agencies (Article 317), he added.
