Georgian future lies with Europe - ruling coalition's candidate

TBILISI. Oct 23 (Interfax) - Georgia's future lies with European integration, presidential candidate of the Georgian Dream ruling coalition Giorgi Margvelashvili said.

"The Georgian government has studied the potential of the Eurasian track and the profound and extensive free trade agreement with the European Union," Margvelashvili said on the Election program aired by Rustavi-2 on Tuesday night.

European integration offers much broader opportunities for Georgia, for instance, in the field of investment, the candidate said.

"Simultaneously we are energetically fostering trade and economic relations with member countries of the World Trade Organization," Margvelashvili said.

In the opinion of the presidential candidate, "The Eurasian Union, which is currently called the Customs Union, is adherent to political unification, and our [Georgian] choice is Europe and the European Union. These are mutually exclusive vectors."

"Hence, Europe is our choice, both from the political and economic points of view," Margvelashvili said.

The Georgian presidential election will be held on October 27. Twenty-three candidates will run for president.
