Over 60% mass media outlets registered in Uzbekistan are non-governmental ones

TASHKENT. Oct 23 (Interfax) - Over 1,360 mass media outlets are registered in Uzbekistan and 62% of them are non-governmental ones.

Such information was released at a seminar dedicated to issues of state support for mass media held in Tashkent on Wednesday.

"A total of 1,366 mass media outlets operate in Uzbekistan and 715 of them are newspapers, 284 magazines, 101 television and radio channels and 247 websites, registered as mass media outlets. The country's mass media is published and goes on the air in seven languages of nations and nationalities living in our country," a representative of the Press and Information Agency of Uzbekistan said at the seminar.

Regional mass media outlets are growing most actively - their number more than doubled in the past three years, the representative said.

The issues of informing the Uzbek population about the activities of the state authorities, the participation of the state and civil society institutions in supporting media and the roles of civil society institutions in increasing the social activity of the Uzbek media representatives have been discussed during the seminar.
