Georgian police depoliticized - interior minister

TBILISI. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The Georgian Interior Ministry's reform has liberated it from political pressure, Interior Minister Irakli Garibashvili said in Tbilisi on Thursday.

"We have significant transformed our ministry this year, essential reforms have been implemented," the minister said.

"First of all, we had always said that the de-politicization of the ministry was unavoidable. The ministry has fully liberated itself from political pressure and a public-oriented system has been established," Garibashvili said.

The security of citizens and the protection of their rights are the main objectives of the Interior Ministry, he said.

"Police no longer influence political processes," Garibashvili added.
