Exports of Shah Deniz gas up 3.3% in 9M

BAKU. Oct 24 (Interfax) - Exports of Azerbaijani gas from Stage-1 of the development of the offshore Shah Deniz deposit in the Caspian Sea amounted to 3.1 billion cubic meters (bcm) in January-September, which was a 3.3% year-on-year increase, the country's State Statistics Committee told Interfax.

Azerbaijan's trunk gas pipeline system transported 14.6 bcm of gas in all during the period, up 3.5%.

Shah Deniz Stage-1 gas exports amounted to 4 bcm last year, 11.2% less than in 2011.

The 690-kilometer South Caucasus Pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum), 442 km of which passes through Azerbaijan and the other 248 km through Georgia, was built to export Azerbaijani gas from the Shah Deniz field to Turkey.

The participants in the Shah Deniz project are BP (operator, 25.5%), Statoil (25.5%), State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) (10%), Lukoil (10%), NICO (10%), Total (10%), and TPAO (9%). Gas sales agreements have been signed between Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Georgia for Stage-1.
