Ivanishvili may be fined for disclosing his choice of presidential candidate - TV
TBILISI. Oct 27 (Interfax) - Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili broke election laws by naming the candidate for whom he voted on Sunday to the media, Georgian Public TV reports.
It cited a commentary of the Central Elections Commission (CEC) on the issue confirming that election law prohibits such declarations on live shows before the closure of polling stations. However, responding to such instances is not a prerogative of CEC and the National Commission for Communications' Regulation is expected to make a corresponding announcement.
Such breaches of law entail certain sanctions, namely a fine, Public TV said.
Earlier Ivanishvili told journalists that he cast his ballot for the candidate of the ruling Georgian Dream coalition Giorgi Margvelashvili.
"I cast my ballot for Giorgi Margvelashvili and the future of Georgia, of course," the premier said.
