Georgia is example of democracy for former Soviet republics - OSCE envoy

TBILISI. Oct 28 (Interfax) - Special representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for the South Caucasus Joao Soares, who visited several polling stations in Tbilisi on Sunday with his colleagues, has said that everything proceeded according to the rules during the Georgian presidential election.

Whatever the political stance of the Georgian people may be, Georgia today is an example of a democratic state for former Soviet republics and also an example of the way power can be peacefully be handed from one party to another, he said to journalists.

European parliament member Krzysztof Lisek also favorably spoke of the process of presidential elections in Georgia. He said that members of elections commissions in localities were well-instructed and voting took place in a calm atmosphere.

Voters appeared at the polling station already at 8 in the morning, he said. Clearly Georgian citizens want to make their choice, he said.
