Police officer wounded in Makhachkala

MAKHACHKALA. Oct 28 (Interfax) - A senior police sergeant was wounded in an attack on a police unit in Makhachkala, the press service for the Interior Ministry's Department for Dagestan told Interfax on Monday.

"The police unit came under fire around 2:30 p.m. One policeman was wounded. A probe is underway," the press service said.

The Investigations Committee's Investigations Department for Dagestan has confirmed this information.

"There is information that the shot was fired from a passing car. However, other theories are also being considered. A group of investigators is working at the scene. A criminal case may be opened," an official from the Investigations Committee's Investigations Department for Dagestan said.
