40 tonnes of cargo dropped from Russian military transport planes during Arctic drills - Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Oct 29 (Interfax) - Russia's Airborne Troops and Military Transport Aviation have conducted exercises in the Arctic, Russian First Deputy Defense Minister Arkady Bakhin said.

"In accordance with the drills plan of the Military Transport Aviation and Airborne Troops, approximately 40 tonnes of different supplies were dropped from two [Ilyushin] Il-76 airplanes at noon local time today," Bakhin told Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during a video conference on Tuesday.

The drills have confirmed the Russian Airborne Troops' ability to assist expeditions, the civilian population and Armed Forces contingents deployed in the region, should such a need arise, he said.
