OPCW likely to find a way to unblock Syria chemical arms talks - diplomat
MOSCOW. Oct 29 (Interfax) - The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons is likely find the optimum ways to break current financial and other deadlocks in talks on the planned destruction of Syria's chemical arsenal, the Syrian ambassador to Russia said.
"Unfortunately, this project needs huge amounts of money. Some states have said they can help, but other countries have refused because there are certain obstacles for such an operation," Riyad Haddad said.
He was commenting on reports that talks on the destruction of Syrian chemical weapons have run into an impasse because of financial problems and because it remains a moot point in what country the arms would be destroyed.
"One would think that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons would be able to find the optimum solution," Haddad said.
