Ukraine has ambitious plans to improve energy independence - Yanukovych
KYIV. Oct 30 (Interfax) - Ukraine is seeking energy independence through increasing the production of its own oil, gas, and electric power, President Viktor Yanukovych said at a meeting with the top managers of the Italian energy company Eni and France's Electricite de France (EDF.
"Ukraine is a state that currently has great and ambitious plans to increase energy independence and gas and oil production," the Ukrainian presidential press service quoted Yanukovych as saying on Wednesday.
Yanukovych said he is sure that Ukraine's cooperation with Eni and EDF will be productive. "Our potential combined with your potential will be a very exciting project, which will be able to work efficiently," Yanukovych said.
Eni CEO Paolo Scaroni said his company is actively involved in developing production of traditional and nontraditional energy resources in Ukraine.
Eni is also working together with Naftogaz on rehabilitating wells that were earlier disabled.
Scaroni reaffirmed Eni's willingness to work in Ukraine to develop its energy sector.
