Kremlin: Russia cracking down on corruption
MOSCOW. Oct 30 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin's chief of staff has said Russia's leadership is pursuing a mounting and uncompromising offensive against corruption.
"We will continue our consistent work of eradicating corruption at all levels, regardless of rank, title and official position. There are no 'untouchables' there, nor can there be any. There won't be any compromises," Sergei Ivanov told reporters.
According to Ivanov, the anti-corruption effort is spearheaded by an ad hoc commission. However, the latter doesn't mete out any punishment but forwards its findings to law enforcement.
Ivanov denied that the anti-corruption offensive would be a form of reign of terror.
"It's not 1937 today, we're not going to shape people's future, least of all have any 'witch hunt'. This is not the case nor will it ever be," he said.
