Moscow Union of Journalists head sees "dangerous precedent" in Rosbalt registration annulment

MOSCOW. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Pavel Gusev, head of the Moscow Union of Journalists and editor-in-chief of the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper, has said he fears that the Moscow City Court's decision to annul the registration of the Rosbalt news agency may set a dangerous precedent.

"It is a very dangerous precedent. It is a well-considered step on the part of the state, which sends a clear signal to the media that interpretations of different laws may lead to the closure of news outlets," Gusev told Interfax on Thursday.

"It is very sad that neither the court nor Roscomnadzor [the Russian communications, information technologies and mass media watchdog] chose to listen to the opinion expressed by a whole number of public organizations that advised against these sanctions," he said.
