Any Syrian president trusted by people acceptable to Russia - diplomat

MOSCOW. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Russia will accept any figure in the office of Syrian president if this figure enjoys the Syrian people's confidence, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said.

"The Russian Federation, respecting the principles of international law and the UN Charter provisions, never interferes in internal affairs of sovereign countries. We are not engaged in social engineering. Any figure is acceptable to us in the office of Syrian president as long as this figure enjoys appropriate confidence of this country's population," Bogdanov said in an interview with Bloomberg, the transcript of which is available on the Russian Foreign Ministry website on Thursday.
