WEC appoints Russian Grids chief its deputy chairman

MOSCOW. Oct 31 (Interfax) - The World Energy Council (WEC) has appointed the CEO of OJSC Russian Grids Oleg Budargin its deputy chairman and senior advisor, the grid company said in a press release.

The decision to appoint Budargin was taken at an executive assembly council meeting. Russian Grids reports that Budargin will be responsible for regional development. He will manage the establishment of a new Eurasian committee council. It will include Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Mongolia and Iran.

"The main aim of the project is the joint resolution of geopolitical, technological, economic and other issues in the fuel and energy industry," Russian Grids said.

WEC already has regional committees for Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Asia Pacific region and South Asia, North America and the Persian Gulf and Middle East.

Former EDF CEO Pierre Gadonneix heads the WEC.
